Jewell City Park Closed

4/6/2020

From the City of Jewell:

While Hamilton County still has had no confirmed cases of COVID 19 to date, we feel it is still important to practice the social distancing recommended by Governor Kim Reynolds Proclamation, the CDC, the Iowa Department of Public Health and Hamilton County Public Health.

With the schools in Iowa closed and all related events cancelled, social interaction is limited. We are tempted to congregate at places like the City Park in Jewell. It is not just that groups can be limited to less than 10 people; it is that people from many different families come in contact either by touching each other or the playground equipment and this equipment is impossible to effectively disinfect. This thereby spreads anything from one family to, now, many. This is specifically what social distancing is trying to prevent.

Therefore, as Mayor of the City of Jewell, I am closing the City Park in Jewell as of Monday, April 6th, 2020.  This has already been done in many towns surrounding us. The Jewell Golf Course is already restricting activity and group size.

In the future, we will address venues like the Jewell Municipal Swimming Pool and events like Jewell Jubilee. Please stay informed. Visit www.jewelliowa.com
